Appearance: 4/5 (looks good, although it’s not spectacular, just as pictured) Overall: 3.5/5 – although I am rounding down to 3 for the review; amazon.com doesn’t allow half-stars, and I’m afraid I just can’t give 4 stars to a product that only lasted eight months. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Graphite version has a faux carbon fiber backing on it, which to me, was the coolest selling point, but also where this case fails to actually impress. From the photos, you may get the idea that this case has some carbon fiber weave texture to it, when really it doesn’t, the texture and effect on the back of this case is actually very resemblant of the “3D like” holographic cards you sometimes see in advertising, in which the picture changes as you hold it at a different angle, you get two different carbon fiber “views” with this case, and while it’s a rather interesting effect, at $17.99 (when bought directly from Amazon, at the time of this review), it’s sort of a let down. The design makes the case feel a bit cheap when your holding it in your hand, and while the effect is quite believable from a distance, when getting closer to the case others will notice. Don’t get me wrong, I actually quite like this case, but feel it should be mentioned that the design on the back is not “weave textured” as you may think. This aside, the case is actually very good, providing good protection, just like the see through Reveal, with ample cutouts for the headphone jack and 30 pin connector, and providing good feedback for the volume buttons and sleep/wake button. Do be aware, Verizon iPhones will not work with this case, the cutout for the rocker switch is form fitting to the AT&T variant. Like is usual from Griffin, your not getting any extras here, just the case, no screen protectors or even a stand, but that’s manageable for most. For anyone in need of a good screen protector which works with this case, You cannot go wrong with any from the SGP Ultra Series (Ultra Crystal, Ultra Optics or Ultra-Oleophobic). I rated this case 4 out of 5, due to the fact that the design is somewhat of a let down, and that at $17.99, we really should be getting at least a screen protector, while these aren’t requirements, most other cases in this price point include such extras, and there really isn’t a reason why Griffin shouldn’t. If your looking for a solid, no-frills, case and not expecting any pack-ins, go ahead and buy this, you should be rather pleased with it, but be aware, it’s not for everyone. |
